Default Just bought an 04 a6 quatro 2.7L s line Few ?'s

Hey everyone,

Just bought my audi and am really liking the forums so far!

They are a great way to find everything you need to know about anything!

So i have a few questions ha

I also have a 2010 tundra crewmax TRD rockwarrior that i bring to the mountains for the 4x4. can the awd of the audi handle the snowy icy mountain roads with all weather tires on it?

Also ive been reading a lot of commotion about the timing belts on these cars. how critical is it to change at 80k as it is not a cheap job to do? I currently have 79500 miles and going to be taking the Girl up to the lakehouse next weekend. (about 350 miles one way)

Any other suggestions?

So far have put in a double din and 2 12'' JL w7 subs to compliment the bose system, tinted tail lights, limo windows all the way around including sunroof and sunstrip on windshield, LED's throughout.

Soon to come:

Powder coating rims tomorrow
coil overs
magnaflow exhaust with quad tips >: ) (any input on how this can be done would be appreciated as the cutouts arnt big enough currently)
spyder headlight lenses (black housing with devil led strip)
HID headlights fog lights and highbeams

Any other mods you recommend besides motor upgrades because i plan on dropping a good 6 large ones on that once aesthetics are taken care of?

Pictures will be coming once rims get powder coated

are dead puppies not much fun? Seriously though, with a decent set of all seasons quattro should be able to handle just about any road conditions. there are obviously limitations. the only problem I've had so far is getting hung up because the snow was too deep.

Most people will tell you that at your mileage, you are living on borrowed time. There seems to be differing opinions on what causes the timing failure. most of the accounts I have come across blame a component failure ie: tensioner, waterpump, roller... not the belt itself. Depending on how well you car was treated prior to you acquiring it will probably factor into how much life is left in the belt. You should be fine for your trip but if the timing fails you will have pretty much bricked your car (too expensive to fix)

Wilkommen to the forums

have fun

If i were you i would look into getting the timing belt changed after a few thousand miles. I did my 2.8's at 90k. The belt itself wasn't half bad but the thermostat was stuck and the serpentine belt was cracked. Once the belt has snapped it's time for a new engine. Change it around 85-90k in my opinion. You should be fine for your trip. Enjoy your car!

So far i love the car. thanks for the quick replies!!!

I am very active on my tundra forum so I am glad to see another active community!

Going from my tundra as my daily driver to this as my DD is a big change but WOW am i having fun! car amazes me more and more every day.

Any other mods that you guys can think of and is there a way to inspect how my timing belt is holding up and if i were to take it to a mechanic about how much would the timing belt swap be ??

Thanks!!

You can inspect the timing belt by taking off the timing belt cover that's behind the serpentine belt. Check for cracks, check the tension of the belt and check the teeth on the belt. If everything in the belt okay keep in mind about the internal parts thermostat ect. I did my timing belt for 1200 and fixed the usual oil leaks valve covers, cam adjuster seals, oil pan, sump seal, ect. It's recommended you go to a European specialist.

Sounds good thanks.

Also I noticed a slight vibration in the car when idling in park. Any one ever heard of any issues regauring this? Motor mounts possibly?
