Keep or trade?

I have an '02 A6 3.0 with 98K. Just had the 100K/Timing belt service and now it seems I'll need a p.s. pump. There has been a small tranny leak that apparently can't be repaired without pulling the whole thing (no, sorry I'm not a DIY guy), but it's been OK as long as I keep the fluid topped off.

I'm wondering what major issues I might expect over the next 3 years. I can get a good lease on a new A4 (which I'm demo-ing right now - a very nice vehicle) but then I'll have those bloody payments. I'm trying to measure that against the potential repairs of my A6.

Thoughts?

how much are the estimates to replace the ps pump and fix the transmission leaks?

Well, I would really like to know how you keep your transmission fluid topped?
You're not a DIY guy, so you obviously take it to the dealer to do so. The past tense tells me that you took it there several times... Did they charge you every time for topping off the fluid, too?

As Jeff said, how much did they quote you for the repair, and where's the leak exactly coming from?

They quoted $215 to replace the PS hose with the caveat that the issue may also be the pump. I'm guessing that as typically happens, they get in there and somehow find the pump will also have replaced for another $500.
I take the car to a private shop (got the recommendation here on the forum) for oil changes and to have the trans fluid topped.

Oh -- I've heard $2500 for the tranny if that needs to be torn down to get to the leak.

Trade it in. Right around 100k is when those 3.0s generally start to get expensive and you are already talking about the trans leaking plus power steering issues.

If you are determined to have the trans leak fixed I would trade it in. Honestly, its not worth putting that kind of money into an 8 year old car that could have major issues in the near future.
