Default Key question for A6

I just bought an '03 A6 and it only came with one key(the one with the remote), but having locked myself out of plenty of vehicles i know its usually a good idea to have an extra key available if needed, so is an Audi dealer the best place to get a new key and how much does that usually cost?

Audi will charge you mucho and make your butt hurt bad. You can usually find uncut versions on Ebay and have them programmed at the dealer. Some VW dealers will do it for cheaper.

or get a vag com and i think u can programmed the key, or if u have only one key available u can program another one . is easy , same when you remove the batt. and u have to recode it , the good one in ignition and 2nd outside , but let you windows open just in case.

Hey, I have a friend with a S4 who has an extra key that he wants to program to work on his car. He has vag com on his lap top. He was asking me how to do it, but I have no clue. So how do you actually do this?

try this first:
Insert master key into the ignition lock & switch on the ignition (do not start car).
Using second key lock the vehicle from the outside manually (use key in door lock).
Press unlock button on the remote control one time, wait at least two seconds or more.

Manually open car using key in door lock.
Remove key from ignition.
Test your remote.
