Have a 98 A6 with 168,000KM (104,000miles). Wondering if I should keep or sell. Does anyone have comments on the average life of the major components? Just had brakes, water pump, seals and timing belt done. Don't think it makes sense if another big repair is around the corner. Any comments?

Other than tie-rods, control arms, and CV joints (which can be done all at once) you've pretty much hit it.

FYI: I have a 98 A6 Quattro with 98,000 miles and the transmission went out. It has been a nightmare finding a used tranny and extremely costly. The car has been in the shop a month. If you look for used parts DO NOT BUY FROM QUALITY EUROPEAN IN HUFFMAN, TX! They took my money and never delivered.

i have a 4.2 with 122000 miles with not a single problem as long as you keep up with regular tune ups and maintance you should be good except i hear the cv joints do go but it is a heavey *** car you know that should be expected especially after 100000 miles
