locked myself out

Default locked myself out

I have a '96 a6 wagon and locked myself out of the car with the keys sitting on the4 center console. DUH
I have a flat metal strap made to slide down by the glass and the gasket but I cant seem to grap the locking mechanism. does anybody know where I can get a diagram of this or tips on how to go about doing this

Pay the locksmith... you'll never get it unless your experienced. I saw a youtube of it being done once, but it took special tools and not a 'slim jim'. Great risk of breaking the glass too...

Lockouts are usually covered by insurance.

Even a locksmith may have trouble, as the 1996 plastic lock pin has no shoulder to grab. The Audi lock cylinders may be more difficult to pick without special picking tools. So, you may have to use that emergency key you keep at home. If the locksmith fails and you have no second key, then you may need new window glass. If you have the key code, then the dealer might be able to make a new key. The dealer can't just be selling keys based on the VIN, unless you happen to have your title with you.

The last time I used a Locksmith, he came out with some tools, poked around my lock for a few minutes, wrote down some numbers and went to his 'shop' in the van. Made me a key in less than 10 minutes total... cost $109 which insurance reimbursed.

So ya, they can do it...
