Default Looked at a 2.7t today, very nice, but...

Guys,

I looked at an A6 Avant 2.7 bi turbo today, it was very nice, with tiptronic gearbox and 74k on the clock.

The problem is, there is some sort of clear fluid on the plastic engine cover under the car, it looks hydraulic fluid, and the power steering reservoir is at the MIN level, but everything works OK, and the car drives perfectly.

I know it's a bit of a long shot, but does anyone have any idea what it could be? Are there any known issues with leaks on these cars? It could be transmission fluid I suppose, but I don't think that is clear is it?

Welcome to the forums and hopefully you will enjoy whatever Audi you end up buying.

As far as the Avant is concerned, I would suggest taking it a mechanic and have them check it over. It might cost you 1-200.00 collars, but it will be well worth it. I suggest taking it to the Audi dealer if one is close buy.

It could be something as simple as a leaking hose, or as severe as a bad power steering rack (sort of common issue). Doubt the transmission itself is leaking as it would leak further back then the belly pan covers. But could be a transmission cooler line.

Must be an Allroad I take it?

Jeff

Thanks for the reply, I forgot to say, I'm in the UK, but most UK forums don't have many 2.7t owners as they are not very common over here. It's not an Allroad, it's only the light weight plastic cover. The leak seams to be at the back towards the gearbox. I might get it looked at by a mechanic I think, could be worth the cost as the car is super cheap, and is very nice bar the leak!

it sounds like it may be the Auxiliary water pump, leaks behind engine to tranny, check it out. The pump itsellf is under the intake.
