Looking to Buy questions
Hi all, new to here...I am an original VW owner but have since steered away from the German family...currently have a Land Rover which i am selling and a Highlander(wifey car) selling as well.
Looking into getting either a 1999 or 2000 A6 Avant (Wagon), pretty much fully loaded...with about 75000-85000 miles....
What can you guys tell me about this idea, realiability, what problems are normal, etc...the more the better I accept all suggestions....again anything else is less maintenance than my Land Rover and my wife !!
Thanks for the help all

RE: Looking to Buy questions
I have an 00 avant quat 2.8l, I love the car. Make sure the timing belt has been changed in that mileage range as it could cost you 1000-1400 dollars to get it done. Take the car to a reliable mechanic, and have them check the suspension components as well as the whole car. Audi/VW's are known for oil leaks, expensive timing belt and thermostat changes, sophisticated front suspensions. If not buying from an Audi dealer, take it to one on the test drive and ask them to print out the service records for you. What's contained in those records sometimes can make or break the deal.

RE: Looking to Buy questions
i've only had mine a week, so i don't know of any common problems yet. Test all the gadgets, check for obvious problems like oil spraying all over, maybe check with your local dealers for an inspection (if not buying from a dealer). My local dealer just did a 40 pointinspection on my car for $40. well worth it to know there wasn't an axle hanging on by the boot or something like that. I can't help ya much since im a newb too, but atleast you get a bump from my post

RE: Looking to Buy questions
I have a 1999 A6 avant, which I bought as my winter car. I actually really like it, and it has been more reliable than my Land Rover as well. I bought it with 74k, and I knew nothing about it. As soon as I bought it, I had to replace the timing belt, which was $800, and now it needs tires... but it has been cheaper and more reliable than my Range Rovers. I still have one, and I almost regret the purchase. I assume that is why you are selling the Rover?

RE: Looking to Buy questions
Pretty Much, the Avant will be my to work driver and my wifes SUV will be the nice weekend driver...I would like to have the AUDI last a long time..the Rover I LOVE!! hate to part with it...but it is a real pain to maintain and money pit..which means Land Rover in England ..but gas is also a big factor, if it wasn't for my ability to do most repairs to the rover myself...it would cost me an arm and a few legs!!!
I hope I can find a 99 AVANT for about $6500 with about 80-89000 miles...I might even take a Salvaged/rebuilt title..as long as I know it was done right...
