You don't have any choice but to order a new key from an Audi dealer and have it programmed to the car. They will order it by the VIN of the car and it'll need towed to get it programmed. Sorry.

One reason I like my daily driver '96 Dakota, a key costs $3 at the hardware store, no programming required. Ah, the good old days.

What year A6?

First advice would be for you to retrace your steps. Unless you threw it in the middle of the ocean during an argument, it's probably around there somewhere.

If its an older car, look in the jack and lug wrech box. My old Audi had an emergency plastic key in there.

Plastic key can also be in the owner's manual. I have the same problem -- last trip east I gave my wife the second key (just in case I misplaced mine) and, of course, she freaking lost it. I'm down to one key. Any idea how much the key and programming cost from Audi?

My Dealership quoted me the following (since I'm also down to 1 key):

$ 150 for a new key
$ 100 to program each key (by each meaning even the one that you have and works).

Total: $ 350 just to get 1 extra key

I remembered the dealer charged me $180 for programming a year ago and told me a new key was 500?

I just saw 2 uncut keys on Ebay for less than $30 w/ free shipping. Batteries are included. The seller says that "all you have to do is take them to your dealer and have them cut and programmed". You could find one key on there for about $15-20 with free shipping. The keys do not have the Audi emblem on them. They claim that's the only difference......ANY OPINIONS ON THIS or has anyone here gotten an aftermarket key like this off ebay? Sounds 2 good 2 be true.
