Default This may be a dumb question, need some help...

Im new to all this so if you could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

I have a 97 a6 quattro that could use a new engine, would it be possible to drop a 2.7t in it? And if it is possible what (if anything) would need to be changed? Could I keep the same transmission etc.... Thanks everyone!

I would suspect that getting all the parts to put a 2.7t into a car that came with a 2.8, would cost more than just buying a car with a 2.7t already... AND you would have your current 2.8 car to sell! (or use for parts.)

NOW: if you had a really nice car w/2.8 and could buy a wreak with a 2.7t and you have the time, skills and a place to do the work ....

I agree it's not worth the trouble. You would need a complete donor car. So why not just drive the donor?

Yeah, I understand where you are coming from, but this isnt only my first Audi, its my first car. I dont want to just give it up, ya know? If I decide to do it I would just need a new tranny and ecu right? Or maybe just the ecu... Anyone know?

i agree to the others ansers..
its not easy to change a engine too another type.. it involves more than that.
my guess is that you have to change the whole electric part, fuel pump, the whole drivetrain, brakes, transmisjon etc, probably the engine mounts wont fit..

i had the same idea with my old bmw(from 12valve to 24). efter a chat with a mechanic,i dropped the idea!:-P

Since it's your first car then you need to learn from the rest of us on our 50th car. You should really look for another car. Replacing the 2.8 with an identical 2.8 will still cost to much and become nothing but a headache.

I had a first car too. It screwed me.
Drink a couple beers and **** on it.

I also recommend doing that to your first girlfriend same scenario different body

Than hit craigslist.

I agree with all the other comments. One thing to add is a 97 is a C4 body style and I don't think the 2.7 came out until 2000 and was in the C5 body style. So your odds are even lower.
