members with chips, how are they?

I just got an A8 4.2 and it is getting 22MPG city I checked it and it is correct. I figure it must be chipped haven't looked for it yet. My A6 3.0 only gets 18.5 If I chip it will I get a few more MPG, Is there a potential risk, What one is best?

I am really only looking to improve my fuel economy not gain power if that makes a difference

Getting 22MPG city with a big V8 is almost hard to believe as most people get less.
Getting only 18 MPG city with the 3.0 V6 is also hard to believe as you should get better gas mileage than this with.
I don't believe any chip will give you better gas mileage, and no performance gain either since neither car is turbocharged.
I would say get the 3.0 looked at, your mileage should be better than 18 MPG.

better to figure 50/50 on the city driving depends on the traffic sometimes I can go a ways before a light. 18mpg is exactly what the ratings say a 3.0 should get, Not that the ratings mean anything, but I'll start checking for vacuum leaks and crap it does vibrate a very little in the morning untill it warms up.

yes, CHIP give you better MPG and also run on low octane gas.

I find it highly doubtful that a chip will improve fuel mileage. If the engine could be safely tuned to generate better mpg safely, that's the way they would come from the factory. I also am doubtful if you're actually getting 22 mpg on a heavy A8/V8. If you're going by the computer, they lie. Mine has always been 1-2 mpg optimistic. If I drive conservatively to get 25-26 mpg per the computer, it projects 500+ miles for the tank. Reality, calculated, is 22-24 mpg and about 380-400 miles before the low gas icon lights. It does better under 65 and worse over 75.

Your 3.0 sounds about right, based on the gas mileage I get with my 2.7T around town.

I don't know about you guys but I love my chips...

I prefer Sea Salt chips for every day consumption but switch to Barbecue on the weekends. If I'm trying to impress the neighbor lady I use sourcream and chive chips but always make sure I have enough beer to make them go down easily.

a chip wont give you better gas milage. The 3.0 motor is not as efficient as the 4.2 is. i work for an audi dealer and that is a common complaint on the 3.0 motor. It just sucks down gas. It can also empty your wallet if you start having problems with the cams and stuff.

"CAN empty my walet" These two cars are my second and third wives. My City Hwy miles vary alot I am in Florida some days the 3 lanes are packed and lights last 5 seconds. Now the three lanes are just for me so It is more like Hwy. But I think I'll Pass on the chip. I'm not feeling it. I would like to see my mileage improve but it seems like that is the pitfall they suck you into and sell you this crap in the end you spend 350 bucks to save 150 per year.
The 4.2 does get better mileage than the 3.0 at the moment. I'll have to see after a seafoam new plugs and coils.
