Since you're dealing with lots of snow, don't go too wide a tire. Wide tires float on snow - narrower tires tend to cut through and grip. That's why most 4x4s remove their summer fat tires and put on real narrow tread for plowing.
My OEM 235/45 R17 Pirelli P6s have been real good in snow. Even on a trip back from Toronto to Michigan this past winter, when they closed the 401 and I had to take unplowed, wind-sweptsnow-covered back farmroads to detour back on, they gripped no problem. They've worked fine out in Trenton ON in-20o Cweather and in a lot of lake-effect snow around Lake Michigan.

I have the same Pirelli tires you have on my A6 and this winter with them was great. No trouble in the snow. I do have the stock rims lying around with Michelin tires (all-season) but didn't see a reason to put them on as I didn't drive too much this winter.
