Multiple ECM failures
I have an 2000 A6 2.7T Quattro which had its ECM replaced at 93025 miles. The unit recently failed again at 110K. Is this a consistant issue with these cars/moduals or could there be a short in the car that is causing the issue. My mechanic states the unit is showing an internal critical error.
Thank for responding. I need all the help I can get with this car. The 1st time the ECM went it was replaced 14K miles ago by the Autobarne dealer. Recently the car would shake out of the engine compartment and adnormal amout of exhaust would come out of the tailpipe. Not all the time just once in a while. Then the car started and shut down and would not start again. The battery, starter and ultinator are good.
My new mechanic told me the failure code but I did not write it done but he stated in was an internal failure code within the ECM.
My fear is could there be something like a short that is causing the failure or was it just a bad ECM.

We would have to find out what the code is in order for us to comment on it. But for your reference, I haven't really heard of many cases where ECU failed. Actually none to be exact. Let us know what the code is if you can.
