Default Navi Display on A6 4.2

I have a 2000 A6 4.2 with the CD nav system and trip computer. The center display unit has died - over half of the horizontal lines are gone altogether - the rest are dim - it's totally illegible. Must be a common issue, as cars on eBay sometimes refer to NOT having it. The side led's (fuel, clock, etc.) all work fine...

The dealership says the whole instrument panel needs to be replaced at $1500. Is there any way to just replace the center display unit? WHere can I get one? Help, please!

Mine is very similar..but instead, when the weather is COLD like morning, the display is 80% perfect.
but as the day get's hotter, or longer in driving (so it warms up) it get worst and worst..and to a point where I barely see anything (like 20%)

So good luck, and let me know how it turns out!

Pixels lost is a common problem with that car. I had mine replaced under warranty for free; lucky me.

New cluster should be about $700 with an exchange of the old one. I would check with a few other dealers.

FYI - Don't try and install one from ebay...as the immobilizer system varies from year to year.

Ping me if you need any other help.
