Question need rear rotors and pads

Looking for rear rotors and brake suggestions for my 2003 a6 3.0 websites would be great... I called the dealer and asked for the size and they told me 255x10 so i asked for the offset but the guy said he did'nt know.... Called esc tuning and the guy said i would have to take my back wheel off and measure the rotor offset myself.... Would any off you guys happen to know the offset? TIA

PAAudiA6,

Funny you posted this, because I just ordered up new pads and rotors for my A6 Avant 3.0 thru the local NAPA. I had them double check that is was for the 3.0 and not the 2.7 or 4.2. The guy asked me if I had the single or dual piston calibers (I have the single piston according to the audi dealer).

Low and behold when I got the rears off the news rotors had a larger offset by ~ 1/4", then when I pulled the fronts the new rotors I had were 1/4" to big in diameter. The deal wants $100 rotor, but that is just too much since there is such a mark up on rotors. I'd be curious to find out what is the dimensions of your rotors.

I'm 1/2 tempted to pull my wheels off and check the dimensions on mine.

Good Luck,

ChillyWilly

Are your rotors so badly gouged/grooved or under thickness you have to replace them? I mean you can turn rotors for less then a third of the cost or more of replacing unless I'm way behind times or rather my mechanic is? The pro's turn them on the car so you don't even take the rotors off...it's really just a shave for a nice clean surface, now he may have porked me for the new ceramic pad's but I got my Merc wagon done for $30 and he uses a cute little R2D2 robot Oops..I reread your subject..mine were front rotors so there may be a difference but I don't think so...the machine sets up the same way. Save some $ and spend it somewhere else on the car

Check with Blauparts, Shokan, or Force Five for rotors. $100 each is WAY too MUCH.

Default You must verify your offset for the rears

Folks,

I weeded through some other posts and found this at ECS and it pertains to the offset for the rears. This is what happened to me, because the rotors I got from Napa had the wrong offset.

NOTE: Following applies to A6 owners only! NOT All Road. Audi A6's in general have 3 different rear rotors that were installed from 1998 & on. You must determine what size &/or rotor hat offset that you have before ordering because that is the only accurate way of ordering the proper rear rotor. Here are the three rotors that are available
245x10
255x10 with 1.5" deep rotor hat
255x10 with 1.75" deep rotor

1.5 or 1.75 hat

Is that the inside dimension -inner face of the rotor to innerface of the hat
or outside dimension - outer face of the rotor to outer face of the hat.

LOL I think I just answered my own question - both - they are the same LOL!!
So all you need to do is remove a wheel and measure the distance.

does the 245x10 have a hat?

Default Measuring the hat

The ECStuning page has a good picture of HOW to measure the 'hat' size. Have a look at that page.
