Hey I'm new here, this is my first post, so bare with me. if this is in the wrong section then let me know, sorry.

Anyway, im thinking about getting a 2001 a6 2.8 quattro. I'm basically just looking for any helpful tips or opinions on it. the price is right so thats not an issue. right now I'm driving a jeep and need something a little better on gas for college, and I've been wanting something more "sporty" anyway.

Is there anything I should look out for mechanically/cosmetically with these cars? etc.

sorry this is broad but I'd just like to know how you guys feel about this car, what I should look for, and what not.

heres a picture of the one Im looking at

Oil leaks from:
oil pan
front cam seals
rear cam seals
rear main bearing seal
crankshaft seal
valve cover gaskets
i probably missed some

Has the timing belt/water pump been changed?
Worn out control arms
Clogged crankcase vent system

These are some of the common problems with this car.

If you are able to work on the car yourself you will save a bunch of money.

It is not a cheap car to maintain, but when everything is tight and running smooth it's a pleasure to drive.

The good thing is 2.8 is the most reliable engine in the c5 chassis.

It will leak oil as stated above but nothing that will leave stranded.

Also check the timing belt. If its been done you are set to go for 80k.

Check suspension. The control arms wear out fast in this car. Other than that it's solid. Don't use cheap gas or oil.

thanks guys, it has a few small oil leaks but nother major. and the timing belt was replaced right before the guy traded it in so thats good. seems really nice
