New A6 owner - have a few questions

Alright, just bought my A6 a few hours ago ('02 3.0 quattro), but haven't picked it up yet - haven't even seen it in person yet (gotta love the internet). Anyway, I'll be picking it up on Monday, but had a few questions that I haven't been able to nail 100% via Google.

First, what octane fuel does the 3.0 require? I'm sure it'll run on any, but is 93 recommended and 87 pulls timing, etc or is it just fine on 87?

What viscosity oil? I've seen 0-40 & 5-20 recommended via Google, but want to know for sure before I place my Amsoil order.

Also, what weight oil in the diffs? Will 75W90 work? What about tranny fluid? Amsoil makes a few different types, but not sure what VAG recommends - is it a Dexron or their own proprietary blend? As you can tell, I'm EXTREMELY anal about fresh synthetic fluids whenever I acquire a new car.

Finally, this is my first Quattro car. Anything special that it requires? U-joints that need to be replaced, etc? I know the system has been around for 2 decades or so, so I'm assuming it's reliable - just not familiar w/ it.

Thanks!!

Ok, requires 91 octane. Anything less is pointless, because whatever you save with the cheaper prices, you will lose in poorer fuel economy.

0w40 mobil1 is all I use. But your brand is your choice.

Audi says all tranny/diff fluids are lifetime. I havent done anything with it yet, at 96k.

No problems with Quattro, however your front end will need atention sooner or later. The control arms and tie rod ends get worn out, usually around 90k. I have a new set of Febi's in the garage, waiting on a special strut tool. Over 1k from Audi, $500 from the right people...

Also, beware of oil leaks. Valve covers and cam seals will plague you. I promise you this. Mine smells awfull! LOL.

Hope this helps!

Run high octane.

I use Mobil 0W30

outer CV joint boots will tear. They suck to replace.

Timing belt and all the seals at 80K along with whatever else you can replace (water pump, thermostat, etc.)

0w-40 or 5w-40.. I like Mobile 1. There's absolutely NO 20 weight on the approved list.

75w-90 GL-4 in the diffs

Unless you do a complete flush, its best to use what tranny fluid is already there.. ask the seller.

High test gas.. Shell, Phillips 66, etc..
