hey, i am new to this forum and just wanted to say hi, and i also have a few questions. i found a 99 a6 quattro 2.8 on craigslist the other day and i am really considering it because its priced right and its really really nice! i test drove it and every thing seems to be in good order, but it has had two owners, and the sellers story about who she bought it from is actually a little sketchy, but i dont think it was abused. It has almost 130,000 miles and i was just wondering what your experinces have been after this many miles? should i expect to do any large maintnence to it any time soon? how has your a6 lasted without large problems?
are there any known problems with this car that i will have to adress that the last owners probably overlooked? most people dont notice the small things. i just need to know because if i spend all my budget on this car i wont have very much for anything bit that goes wrong!
i was also wondering what kind of routine maintnence will be required and if it is much more expensive than a generic car brand, not that a dodge or toyota is compareable! and are there many other things that you suggest i consider? thanks alot!!!

I dont think that is such a great price...I found one with 90K, 5 speed 2.8Q , 1 owner, all records for about $8k. And I am still considering it.

 

Too much money, I paid 9k for my 00 2.8l tip with 114k miles one owner a year ago. But at 130k the timing belt should have been changed by now and you do have a couple options my car does not. I think 8k is more reasonable.

 

oh, i forgot to mention that they said they would accept 8000 for the car, not 9500, so thats a good thing.
but i'll ask about the service records and see what has been done so far.

 

I paid 8k for 99 2.8 with 90k on it..
and have to do timing belt work for 1350 so about 9k total.
so make sure timing belt is done....

 

well, another thing he has to consider is location, it is in alaska, so aything with 4x4 or awd is worth more then in the cont. 48 states. i paid 11k for my a6 avant with 71k and i'm at 83, no major problems, needs a tune-up but thats it.

 

dont do it, i paid 7k for 99 a6 quattro with 78k on it

 

flajocool, it seems like you got a good deal, blue book or nada i forget which one says the cars worth between 7500 to 9500 and i dont think i can get the price any lower, but i am going to look at the car tomorrow and ask more questions, so any other big things i should ask about besides the timing belt and routing maintnence?
