New problem, Audi A6 won't start up!

Sup people,
Today I finally drove to DMV to get my new Audi A6 2.8L Quattro to register.
After 2 hrs of annoying waiting, I got out with my new license plate. I mount them on, and ready to go to work. already 2 hrs late.

I start my car... and it won't start up! What??

Now this is my questions:
2 days ago, in the morning, when really cold (around 40F) I have to crank the car for over 30 second before it starts up. so then, I thought, shoot, something is not good, but I thought it was related to the temperature.

Today at DMV, it's like 70F outside. and I just drove the car from my apartment to DMV, so it works 2 hrs ago. then it is not. and this time, I cranked it CONTINUOUSLY for about 40 second. nothing. I do it again, and again. check my gear at PARK, pump the gas, open the hood, etc etc. NOTHING. it will crank. and the crank is very STRONG and consistent. but not starting up.

Then from my previous post, I said I have a check engine light which my scanner cannot read it, but I just plug in my ODB-II scanner in there again just to see, and this time, I spit out a P0200 code which is "Injector Circuit Malfunction"
So I was like... WHAT? and when I got the car, I did got a code saying "one Injector open circuit" (something like that) but that never shows up after I clear it. so now, it's the injector circuit malfunction, and that unknown code is gone.
after sitting there, tried like 10 times, it works finally. but it is like.. DON"T wnat to start... when I crank, the RPM is like 10-50RPM lol.. so I step on the gas pedal, and eventually, it goes higher and higher and got to idle RPM.

Now I am thinking.. can it really be the injector circuit? and what is it that it is saying malfunction? and where?
I am very new to Audi, so I have no clue what it is. and I am really worry it will die in the middle of the road. so someone please help ASAP! I need this car to get to work!

Thanks alot.
Gil

RE: New problem, Audi A6 won't start up!

Okay, the way that its behaving, and the nature or the problem, its sounds like something in the injector circuits has an intermittent connection failure. Could be a loose connection, dirty contact, or broken wire, or a component with a bad internal connection. Because its startup, I am thinking it has something to do with a secondary system, and not the primary injectors. (Unless is idles rought or missfires.)

When you said it was turned over slow, then started to pick up RPM, I assume it was sputtering badly or something? Sounding like it was flooded maybe? Was there a smell of fuel or anything? Back smoke out the tail pipe when it fired up to indicate it was flooded?

RE: New problem, Audi A6 won't start up!

Hi, well, the car idle VERY SMOOTHLY.
And I drove the car for 4 days now. only that morning and today at DMV it happened.
other then that. no back fire, no smoke, no rough idle.

When I mean it rev up slowly, it's like:
I keep turning the key to the crank position. and it will keep cranking and cranking. and NOTHING. just keep cranking. and after like 10 times of retry today (in 30 mins) the last time, I hear something different.
like gar gar gar.. grroh.. ... gar gar gar.. grroh... so it seems like it finally want to start up. like no fuel or no spark. or etc. so I step on the gas pedal and continue to crank it. and it start to get more frequent (in terms of the "grroh")
So after another 5 second or so, it starts up but it dies right away. so right before it dies, I give it MORE gas, and it is up and running, and after like 5 second on the gas pedal, I let go, and it idle smoothly at 700RPM. I drove home, and shut it off, and restart it, it turn over right away. and smoothly too. so this is my SECOND time it happen like this.
and the ONLY check engine light I got right now is "injector Circuit Malfunction"

So I have no clue what is wrong.
What you mean by secondary system?
If loose wire, shouldn't the engine might die when running if I hit a bump or something?
But as long as I drove (in the past 500miles) it's as smooth as a new car EXCEPT that twice start up problem.
Anything I should replace or check?
Thanks

I don't have the repair manual, since I just got the car, and I need this fix right away, otherwise I be not going to work... please help!

RE: New problem, Audi A6 won't start up!

By secondary, I mean a system that only runs during start-up or something like that. Meaning that once the car is running, it seems to be fine. I would think that if it was a problem once the car is running, that you would have experienced something while driving by now. If it is a system only used during start-up, then if it had a poor connection you would not notice it when driving if the wire stopped making contact.

Usually, when you have to crank it to start, and have your foot on the gas pedal and it sputters, runs slow, then slowly builds up RPM, its flooded. The extra air that gets fed into the engine helps to burn/evaporate the fuel. One could test the theory by pulling a spark plug when it does it to see if its wet/damp. (Again, its hard to diagnos a car problem without hearing it, especially when people interpret things differently.)

Only thing I can think of is to look at wire connectors under the hood. See if any are loose, broken, partially connected. Other than that, a grage. Never heard of this problem before myself. You might try Audi world, it has more traffic as I understand it.

Thanks alot.
But so many wires and adapters, and I have no clue where to start, coz I only been working on Eclipse, and Civic before.
I will try AudiWorld and see.
Thanks again!

Please help guys,.... HELP!

Today is my third time. It seems like it's the same as my second time. I drove home from work at 10PM, took a shower, and eat lunch, then at 12, I went out to start the car. SAME THING.. keep cranking, but won't start.

I checked the Check Engine Code again. Same as what i erased yesterday. "Injector Circuit Malfunction" (P0200) I cannot even fine P0200 at the code list. what's sup?

So I took of #2 spark plug, and I crank the car. at first I see a tiny mist shoot out (for the first 1 second of cranking) then after there, no more. so I guess it's what is left in the car. so I believe there is NO FUEL being injected. (at least for that #2 cylinder)

But since I am by myself, I cannot see if there are spark.

Someone, please help me now.
I am stuck at work, and DAMN, I have a meeting at 1PM.

Does the plug look wet/damp from fuel? Doupt you'll see much mist coming out the spark plug hole whe you crank it, esp from the inside of the car. If you do, I definately say its flooded.

Honestly, sounds like time for a trip to the dealer/garage.

RE: Please help guys,.... HELP!

It happened twice today.
And I am SURE to know how to get it working (get it start up from this situation).

Bascially this is what I did.
I have to crank it. then after it is cranking (it won't start) I have to step INTO the gas pedal ALL THE WAY. I DO MEAN all the way otherwise won't do it. then as soon as I step the gas pedal all the way in, the car sound different, and after like 2 second, it starts up. RPM shoots high, I let go of the gas, and RPM stay SOLID on 1200 RPM (coz cold start) then drop back to ~700RPM solid.

So odd, only at start up.
And also answer some of other question. when I do that, the car starts up, but a HUGE black smoke from the rear. seems like running super rich.

OK, it seems like, under certain condition, at startup, it won't give gas, so the engine won't start up, but when I WOT it at cranking time, it will have WAY TOO many gas to start so in result black smoke for like 2-4 second after car starts.

This problem won't happen after I shut off the car, ONLY when I leave the car there after driving for like 2+ hrs.

Any better ideas now guys?

RE: Please help guys,.... HELP!

I recorded a video clip of my startup. it starts right up, but you konw how the dash and stuff goes.
http://www.geocities.com/gilee_8/file/Startup.wmv
So you guys can see the dash light and things from the video clip: It's about 2.1MB, so it's not too big.

Symtoms:
1) it doesn't happen all the time, and it only happens (randomly) .
2) If I crank it, then STEP on the gas pedal COPMLETELY, it will slowly starting and starts right up and stable at 700RPM solid.

So from the above two things, shouldn't it be related to fuel? and I get check engine light saying "injector circuit malfunction" P0200
Please give me some hints. BTW, last nite when I drive my car again, the light pops back on after I erased it yseterday morning. but somehow this morning, the light turns off by itself. odd.

Please help! Thanks.
Gil

New updates: I got to work at around 10PM.
And now is like 12:30PM, so I go out to try to start the car again. nothing.
it won't start. and here is the clip for it not starting.
http://www.geocities.com/gilee_8/file/Startup2.wmv
It's 3.xxMB, so not too big either. if you turn up the volume a bit, you will hear the engine cranking.

Thanks again.

Its likely related to fuel, but its hard to tell at this point. Usually when its ignition related, you will get more backfires and misses. Your car doesn't sound like it getting any fuel, or else it has no spark. Given that its got a fuel related code, its likely something to do with the injectors, not ignition.

Also sounds like its getting worse, as in the frequency of the problem is happening as smaller intervals. At this point, I think its going to take some hands on investigation. Best hope for that is a garage.
