Default New Rotors & pads grinding? HELP!

Replaced the frontrotors & pads last night w/help from my 10 year old son. went great, now on the 50 mile commute today I'm getting a grinding sound from the front drivers side. Any thoughts? I can depress the pedel and it goes away then starts again. Not tobad but if the wife hears it shes going to complain. $1,800.00 in the last two weeks she wants to get rid of it

Have you checked to make sure no debris wound up in between the rotor and the pad? Had that problem once myself. Also, might want to pull wheel off and watch brake action to ensure that everything is moving correctly.

Good Luck

CV joints tend to make a clicking sound when turning if they are bad. Did you notice a lot of grease in the wheel well when you changed the brakes from a torn CV boot?

WaggsA6

That axle, CV boots were replaced a week ago that was part of my recent expense the wife is complaining about.

Thanks

You might want to have someone double check the new axle to make sure nothing is going on "behind the scenes."

i have a 2000 a6 avant and the same thing happened to me. when i first changed them and drove around it sounded like the pad was skipping on the rotor or coasting along it. i asked the audi dealership and they said there will always be some contact between the pad and rotoe, because they float. about two weeks later it just went away...tough it out. now, if its grinding, which also happened to me before, may want to be careful. i cracked my brake pad, and in turn it cracked the forged steel bracket that the caliper bolts to. good luck man.

Thanks,

I think I'll stick it out. Everything seemed to work correctly last night when I took it apart. It's just my luck though that something else is wrong with it, like a wheel bearing or worse....

Hey dude, i got a 2000 a6 4.2 my question to you is, when you hear the grinding is it intermittent? i had a similar issue, it was the ball berring, you can tell by a grinded outter ring on the rotor, around the circumfrence, above and beyond that get someone to listen, cause at 1 point i thought my front brakes were grinding, but it was my rear brakes, you just can't tell while inside the car. if you have resolved this issue then great, enjoy your ride
