Default Newbie experiencing Problems with A6.

Hello everyone!

I am a newbie here in this forums and was hoping to tap into the vast knowledge of this forum.

The car in question is an Audi A6 2.8 FWD, I have checked the engine code and it turns out to be ATX.

However, there are a few problems here.
1. Idling Rpm.
The rpm when idle when starting up is around 780ish rpm. But gets closer to 750rpm. Is this normal?

2. Getting a service manual for my car.
I was looking through this site and found loads of useful information. However, it does not seem to have the ATX engines. I have been to erwin.audi.com but i do not understand German and found myself running around in circles. Does anyone have any idea where to get the PDF of it?

3. Vibrations during travel.
It appears to have quite abit of vibrations when the car is moving. Any ideas?

4. Very loud squel when turning wheel when stationary
I guess it could be a loose belt, but which one should i be looking to replace?

5. Data Port for VAG-COM
Where the heck is the VAG-COM Port for this car? I cant seem to find it at all!

Many Many thanks

Ken

coms port could be in the center rear ashtray or the steering wheel area and you definitely have a power steering problem check the fluid level and the tension of the power steering belt

Hi Dave,

I am most impressed with the speed of the reply, you must be working on all cynlinders.

I am very frustrated about the lack of information on the net for the ATX 2.8 Engines. I understand that the Passats 1999-2001 have them too, yet there are no info about them!

RPM should be between 650 to 750 engine up to temp, the engine code in the UK is APR built from 1997-02

Welcome to the pool! After a spirited drive, please remember to shower before entering. First thing I'd recommend is putting together a quick signature listing some of the basic config info about your car: year, model, engine, and any important packages that determine how the car is set up (e.g., "sport" packages typically include suspension improvements).

Regarding your third item... Need a bit more info in addition to the basics noted above. Does the vibration start at a particular speed? Stop at one? How old are the tires (i.e., treadlife gone/remaining)?
