O2 sensor CEL code
 

New to Audi and this forum. Bought a used 2000 A6 and within a few months I got the CEL with code for O2 sensor. Is this an easy fix? How about resetting the codes myself is that easily done? I'm sure this isn't the first time this question has come up so if you have a link with the answers I would appreciate it. Need to fix to pass the CA smog check. thx

I was given the code number P1176 and told it meant O2 sensor failure. That's as much as the diagnostics guy knew.

I can read some of it such as "lambda correction after catalyst," but the 'probable cause' wording is a bit too fuzzy, could you help me with that?

I see what it says but any diagnosis? Intake Leak, HO2S could mean what? Replace the O2 sensor is the best guess? Do you know exactly where that is located and if I did replace, what about the light, would it go out automatically or do I need to reset some how and can I do that or need an audi mech?

hmmmm if you were to fix a leak that would solve the problem ( HO2S ) is just a signal and not the problem or could be both but if it were me I would clear the code then examine the results on a drive cycle, if the code comes back then there is a fault and you need to post the results
