Oil Level Sensor for 1.8T (APU) A6

Hi All,

I am still having troubles with my oil sensor!

Although the oil warning lights do not come on on the dash any more. Due to changing the oil pump. I changed the sump oil sensor at the same time to be doubley sure. this has given me a new/different problem.

Generally the oil temp guage does not work since changing the sensor, so I thought I'd either bought a duff one or damaged the connector. It now turns out the guage does move on occassion, but only briefly when starting the car, before dropping back to zero. So I now know the sensor works (for a while) and the connection is good.

Reading through threads on here, the 2000 model (which I have) does not take kindly to any other sensor unless it's a Hella one.

Can anyone else verify this? If so, where can I guarantee to get one (in the UK), as the Audi main dealer isnt sure what the make is until he orders me one (at £75+vat not a chance I want to take!). As an alternative, like before, I could get another from E-Bay, but does anyone know the name of a compatible patent part I could get?

This is driving me insane - any help would be appreciated!!

I wasn't even aware the A6 came with the 1.8t, thought that motor was used in smaller cars.

Hi All,

I thought I would give an updated, albeit a very late one!
I have now replaced the sensor with a Hella one. The guage is now working fine.
Moral of the Story; A secondhand original sensor (Hella) is better than a patent part.
