Oil Temperature.

Alright people,

What should the oil temp be on an A6 1.8t 98 model? When I first got the car it used to sit at about 80c but now it goes up to about 100c. Had the oil changed about 2000 miles ago.

Thanks for you help, much appreciated.

RE: Oil Temperature.

Under normal operating conditions they usually go up to about 250 degrees farenheight and stays right around there.. So at 100 celecius your ok. They can go higher if you cruise at sustained high rpms.

Woohoo someone replied at last. Cheers fella. It used to sit at about 80c when I fisrt got it so I was a bit paranoid as my water pump started to leak and I had to get it replaced & thought it might have affected the engine as I kept driving it for a week. Local Audi dealer quoted me about £450 all in to replace it and the water pump was only £40. Damn Audi franchises. Bought the pump off Audi and went to the local mechanic instead and saved myself £300.

The car doesnt feel as smooth as it used to at about 90mph + anymore either.
