going to buy a 01 A6 ,question ,,is there a sure fire way to tell what options the car came with ? like with the VIN or ? i know some stuff will be visable and some options are standard ,,just curious about the other little things thanks tony b

The best and easiest way is to really familiarize yourself with what was available that year. Let me give you a few pointers...
Click on the link in my signature to take you to my registry page. There, you will find links to 2001 model year info. The first one is the model guide at www.audiworld.com. The second is a PDF file that was originally used in Audi dealer training. This second one also contains (on page 10) option codes. If you really want to see what you've got, open the trunk of the car, remove the spare tire, and look for a litle pice of paper stuck to the spare tire well. On that paper you will find the option codes included in that car. Compare those to the ones listed on the resource I cite above.
