Default P0300

Hi,

I just had my check engine light come on yesterday, and the car began to idle rough and hesitate under acceleration. I pulled the P0300 code but that was the only code my car shows. From searching it looks like most people got codes for specific cylinders too but this is not the case with my car. I have replaced all the spark plugs, but no change and the old plugs looked fine. Does anyone know what I am looking at here? Do I need to replace all the ignition coils? Should I look at replacing the Ignition Control Module? Please let me know. Thanks.

it could be bad fuel since you only got one code P0300 which just means a misfire was detected so chances are if you use a fuel cleaner and clear the code it might just clear its self

No luck with the fuel cleaner. I definitely think the car is running on less than 6 cylinders as the idle is very rough and low end rpms the car hesitates a lot. I think I am going to start pulling plug wires tonight and try and see if I can locate the cylinder.

sounds like a good plan, one dead spark plug wont throw a code and the system will see it as code P0300 which it only telling you its one of the plugs but it dosnt know which because its totally dead ( it has to spark eraticly to throw a code on that plug ) it sounds like your on a winner there and good luck

Well I pulled the plug wires and narrowed the problem down to cylinder 5 (the cylinder on the drivers side in the middle). However, the problem is not the ignition coil as I had hoped because I swapped the coil between 4 and 5 and 5 still would not run, but 4 still would run. Looks like it might be the wiring going to the coil. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
