P0302 Error - Need Advice Please
I have a 2014 A6 2L with 82k miles. I bought it 80K miles from an Audi dealer in November. The original owner bought it at that dealer and all maintenance had been done at that dealership so I figured I was good to go. The other day it suddenly started idling a little rough so I took it to different, closer, Audi dealer to be looked at. They ran diagnostics and showed error code P0302 and said cylinder 2 was misfiring. They did a leak down test and said the pressure was only 80 psi. They put a scope in the cylinder and did not see any obvious issues. The suggestion was there is either a problem with the cylinder or less likely the piston. Replacing the piston would run around $9k and most likely would not resolve the problem. If the problem was the cylinder itself then it would require a $14k engine replacement. The dealer looking at the car is one of the nation's most reputable dealerships and I have no reason to not trust them but that is a tough pill to swallow. I plan on getting another mechanic to take a look for a second set of eyes but I thought I would also check here as well.
Anybody ever had a similar situation and/or any suggestions for me? I am in a panic that the car I have only had for 9 months and driven only 2,000 miles now needs more work than it is probably worth. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
