Default pad suggestions

i dont know much about brakes other than the ones that are on my car now are worn and creating a sacreligious amout of brake dust on my wheels. i am currently on tire racks page looking at brake pads for my car but i dont know which ones to get for a couple reasons A. some of the pads say they have a round connector and the others say a d shaped connector. B. do i want ceramic, O.E.M. compound, or composite. and lastly when i get these new pads since im not also buying rotors must i still "bed them in". BTW i have a '00 A6 2.8 quattro any help would be appreciated. if this was my civic i would just go slap the auto zone specials on it but i love this car and dont want to go the wrong direction.

Check out EBC Green Stuff. I installed these on a 99 2.8, and felt they were a nice upgrade. Nice stopping power cold and hot and as they say very little brake dust. You would still want to "bed them in" with any brakes you get.

Don't forget to go with a pad that has the factory wear sensor. I think Mintex makes a set, but I am not sure. Otherwise, save the sensor wires from your old pads and make a sensor jumper so you do not get the (O) worn brake pad warning light.

I have used Hawk pads so far with very good success! Also very low brake dust to keep those front wheels clean!

OOOO

There are other factors you might want to consider when upgrading you brakes. What is the reason for the upgrade? If it's to eliminate brake dust then you can get a set of low dust pads and be done with it.
However if you plan on high speed stops, and who doesn't, you might want to consider upgrading the rotors (slotted or drilled) and going with SS brake lines. The often quoted Stoney's link has alot of info you might want to check out.
Hope this helps.
