paintless dent removal by SOS Dent in L.A.

EXCELLENT work, I highly recommend this service to anyone here in SoCal who is about to return a leased vehicle and wants to save a few bucks on damage fees. I was a total skeptic, but I watched the repair technician work his magic and now I'm a believer. Made same day appointment and they offered to send mobile repair truck to my home, no add'l charge. Got the 3 door dings that have been always bugged me repaired for $250 within an hour. Same repairs would've cost me $2000 at a body shop plus 3 or 4 days of rental car charges. Guy was a total professional, and had the air and skill of a craftsman rather than a repairman. Check em out at http://www.sosdent.com and ask for David

huh, i wonder if they have one of those around here. i've got a little dent about the size of a nickel in my driver's side rear door that's been bugging the hell out of me. it'd be great to get it fixed for that inexpensive.

What exactly is the technique?

Every time i've seen a dent being banged out the paint gets destroyed and its basically a repaint of the panel.
I have a small dent in my rear quarter from a cyclist and i'm just waiting for the right time to repair/paint the whole thing.

they offer their mobile repair service to most areas of LA, so I'd call them and try to schedule something. Worst case scenario, they'll give you a referral to a shop more local to you that can came out to your home or office. Won't hurt to give them a call and find out.

basically, the technique involves 'massaging' out the dings/dents from the inside of the door panel using various metal rods tipped with hard rubber on the end. these rods have handles and the guy basically just massages the dings out by hand. in most cases, it's all non-intrusive. so instead of taking apart your doors to gain access to the area needing repair, the truck the repair guy shows up with is basically a mobile workshop, very similar to the kind of truck locksmiths drive. since my dings were all on the doors, my guy used a hard plastic triangle that he wedged between my windows and weather stripping, giving him enough space to drop the rod inside of the door panel. i actually watched him do all the repairs because it was pretty neat to see something so simple, yet so effective.

here's the end result (wish I had a before picture so you could see the difference, esp on the rear doors that used to have ugly pinhole dents!)
