ORIGINAL: alexfunari ...these any good?....
First things first... the "chips" (4 or 5 wires coming out of a box of some kind) that are sold on eBay are crap! All these things typically are is a resistor or some very basic electronic components that interfere with the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor's signals.
It is NOT a performance chip. A real performance program (or chip) is actually inside your car's ECU (Engine control Unit) and consists of program changes to the car's ignition maps to enhance power output. I have most of the chipmakers listed on http://www.VAGLinks.com under "Performance Part Vendors" (please send me new ones if you find any), don't get taken for a ride by the eBay crap.
Let me add that if someone on eBay is selling a software change, they might be legit, but no modern chip works with a few wires, tust me. The other thing to keep in mind if you are buying the software from a small no-name place is how safe it is. Remember they can severely damage your engine with incorrect tuning, so IMHO I would not gamble with that. Rather stick with the guys that have been doing it for a long time and have their reputations on the line. Unfortunately these are not the $75 version...
Hope that helps.
Cheers

thanks guys, money is not really an issue, they just looked somewhat decent compaired to those "99c" resistor chips they sell.
So what do you think about my milage though 143xxx? Am I at risk of blowing my **** up?

so long that the engine is running strong... i would get a leak down/compression test, make sure everything is tight, then you can have confidence behind the chip.

Hold up. If I read your profile right, you have a 2.8l engine. You're not going to get much out of that, chip or not. It's just not a tuneable engine. You'll pay a lot of money for very little benefit.
You want performance, buy the 4.2l or buy a 2.7T and chip that. Otherwise, just enjoy what sounds like a fine ride and reliable car.
