Default Phone wont pair with car (bluetooth) after MMI Update 1190 to 4160

I recently updated my MMI from 1190 to 4610 on my 2006 Audi A6 Quattro, and had no problems with the update. I did this in order to install the AMI unit.

After I did this I am unable to pair my phone via bluetooth to the car. It was working totally fine before I did the update. Whenever I click on the TEL button I keep getting a message saying Telephone not Installed.

Did you try to repair the phone by having the phone search for the car? I have read that you need to run the second update disc twice .

Run 4610 disc 1 again that's the Bluetooth.

Turn off your phone, remove the battery and try again.
Make sure you are using the correct password when your phone is in pairing mode.

OK, here is an update to the situation. I took the car to the dealer to get a service done and asked them to look at the bluetooth issue. They think that water got into the system and that they need to replace the entire computer module that is under the seat and also redo the wiring and this will cost $900 for the module, plus labor for the rewiring. I told them to hold off because I am not sure if that is the problem. Bluetooth stopped working after MMI update.

Is there anything else I can do on my end to try to fix this? I have not tried running 4610 disc 1 again because I took the CD player out to put the AMI in, but I can try to put the CD Player back in to run the update again. Any other suggestions?

You'll need Vag-Com to reset the value of channel 12.

I showed the dealer the following:

VERIFY THAT ADAPTATION CHANNEL 12 OF THE 07 DISPLAY/CONTROL UNIT IS SET TO 2 AND RESET THE MMI BEFORE BEGINNING THE PAIRING PROCESS AGAIN.

They said that the module is broken and it needs to be replaced and that this wont help. I am not sure if they tried this or not, but I am being told that it will cost $1500 to replace including labor because they have to take the seat out.

Does anyone else think it could be because the module is messed up? I never had a problem until I updated the mmi, so I am still thinking that has to be the problem.

I already have spent $1000 fixing various issues such as the trunk latch repair, the keyless start button repair and fixing a water leak. I really dont have much more left to replace the entire Bluetooth module so I am hoping there is an easier fix.

I would try the less expensive approach of checking the value of the adaptation channel 12. If that works, you're in the clear, if not, then you'll have to do some serious work on the MMI. But I had to change my value to 2 before I could get it to pair with my phone again.

Just make sure you make note of the original value. If this doesn't work, you can return it back to the original value. Let us know how it turns out.

Update - it now works! I didnt listen to the dealer, if i did i would have been out almost $1400. I had some time yesterday so I pulled out the ami and put my cd changer back in, then put the mmi disc 1 back in and updated it. The Bluetooth started working after that. I could have sworn I did the complete update, but I guessed I missed that. I think the first time you put the mmi disc in it runs a bunch of updates and tells you it's complete but really you have to run it again. There also was an update that got applied when I put in disc 2 also which I had no idea remained.
