Hope someone can please help me.

I recently bought an Audi A6 2.4 1999 Auto. Its probably one of the best cars i have had. Unfortunately it has developed a weird problem. I parked my car up after work today without a problem. I then later tried reversing out of my steep drive, unfortunately the car would not reverse. We managed to push it out, when it was on a flat road it reversed fine. it still drives excellent going forward. I spoke to a mechanic he said i might need a new gear box as a solenoid may have got damaged. Is this true? it is difficult to buy a new gear box in this climate so any help will be appreciated. i did recently notice the car struggle in reverse before this happened.

Just to update everyone. I took my car to a transmission specialist who agreed to change the oil. When he put the car on the ramp and opened the bolt to drain the oi, black oil leaked out and he said i need a new gear box because this proves its burnt out from inside, is this true? Please help

Put new fluid in and go from there. Also make sure the correct amount is put in.

I highly doubt it will fix the reverse problem, but my Buick lived it's whole life with me not having reverse. That was 2 years in HS. You will adapt quickly to not parking your car in a place where you have to reverse. That and me + 3 friends = 1 foot out each door slowing pushing the car backwards.
