possible audi owner need advice

So this dealer/mechanic is selling this 2003Audi a6 quattro 3.0 for only 1300... The catch is he says its in limp mode and said it could cost anywhere from $50 to $1000 ...i test drove the car it drove awesome. He doesn't trust other people with his cars and says its the risk you take and thats why its that cheap.. My bbuddies say it probably needs a new transmission... Which even for that 1300 still wouldnt be bad since id be willing to fix it.. What should i do i need some advice please asap!!!

Unless you are bored and want to throw money out the window - run ;)

Limb mode is usually not caused by a 50$ part and the range to fix this should look more like 500 - 3000. The High end range would be if you are looking at a refurbed transmission and a control module. You might be able to get away with it a lot cheaper but even if money is not the issue we are talking about a lot of hours for the swap and diagnostics.

Twelve year old A6s in good working order may need expensive repairs. I'll bet this one surely does, especially if the owner (a mechanic) is walking away. You should run.
