problems replacing tensioner gaskets

Okay fellas, as you may or may not recall, I had changed out my VC gaskets about 4 months ago and left the tensioner gaskets alone. I kept having an oil leak so I bought another set of VC gaskets, tensioner gaskets, and the 3366 tool to perform the operation of changing out the tensioner gaskets. Well, on Saturday I removed the valve covers and inserted the 3366 tool in order to compress the tensioner. However, it seems like the tensioner in my A6 somehow was adjusted way to low with no slack in the chain. When I tried to compress the tenisoner with the 3366 tool, I couldn't and as a result I was unable to remove the tensioner gasket and half moon.

It seems to me that the only way to fix this would be to replace the entire tensioner and remove the camshafts and chain in order to set the tensioner at the right level.

Has anyone ever encountered this? I replaced my VC gaskets andcleaned the area around the tensioner with brake cleaner in order to monitor oil leakage.

Another question: Is there another way to temporarily fix the oil leak if it's only come out of the tensioner seals???? Will adding RTV sealant on the side of the valve cover where the tensioner gasket meets the valve cover will stop the leakage???

Thanks in advance for all the help.
