Default Race gas in a chipped 2.7t???

While putting 5 gallons of 110 octane race fuel in my 2.7t, a real race car pulls up to the pump. The guy says, "your not puttin that in that audi are you?". I said yes. He said I just ruined my catalytic converter. I was very worried all the way home. Nothing has gone wrong yet, no lights popping up. Should I heed the rednecks warning a siphon it out or what? I don't want to hurt my car.

Both Sunoco and Cam2s 110 octane racing fuels contain lead. Your Audi is not designed to handle lead. I don't know if 5 gallons is going to cause any permanent damage, but you did screw up. I wouldn't do it again.

How much regular gas (89-93oct) was in their prior to putting in the race fuel? If you had a half of tank of regular, then you should be fine. If you were empty and then pumped in 5 gallons of race fuel, your check engine light may come on soon.

Do you have a 93 octance file (GIAC-APR-SSP...etc)?

Unless, of course, you have the a 100+ octane race fuel program. The no worries.

There was probably 3 gallons maybe 4 in the tank prior to putting the 5 race gallons in. I have a GIAC and switched the program from pump to race before hand. The race program is for over 100 octane fuels. My big worry I guess is the converters clogging because thats what the race car dude said would happen. So far so good though. No lights. No rough idle. You have eased my mind somewhat though. So thanks.

If you have the race program then you have no worries. If it is leaded that might be a problem. The lead will destroy the cats.

I have heard of some people, not me, that have put a lead fuel additive into their tank when their cats reach about 70K just to destroy them and have them re-placed under warranty.

If it was leaded I would siphon it out! Unless, you car is under 8years old/80K miles. Then you could get a new set of cats re-placed under the Emissions Performance Warranty.

It was leaded. My car has about 85,000 on it. I tried to siphon it out but could not get the tube I was using in to the tank. So I went to the gas station and topped off with regular. I put about 10 gallons of 93 in. I thought that was the best thing to do at the time.

I would say, that you did everything you could. Know just keep your fingers crossed.

You should be ok.

If you want more "mind ease" call the dealer who installed your software. Find out what their take is on leaded vs un-leaded fuel

Good Luck!

Default Race Gas

Yes leaded fuel will ruin your cats and 02 sensors overtime, have you looked at running some unleaded race gas?? Maybe some of VP’s MS 103 or 109, I like the StreetBlaze 100 personally, but you said that you had a your race program for over 100 octane, so maybe the other fuels would work better.
