Rear bearing failing? Repack with grease as short term fix?
My daughter has a 2001 2.7 Turbo Quattro, and I just replaced rotors and pads all round. The rear ones in particular were pretty shot, but she drives around with stereo up so loud she probably never the graunching sound.
After replacing the rotors and pads, I can now hear a fairly quiet noise from the back of the car which sounds like the something metal rubbing. It's car speed related, not engine speed, doesn't change with braking but does get louder as the car hits a bump. It's also quite a lot louder in reverse.
I thought about the dust shield, but have "moved" it back from the disc and it didn't make any difference.
The noise isn't very loud - the heater fan will mask it at anything over low speed.
I'm thinking it's a bearing on the way out.
I don't have time for a few weeks to get the bearings replaced, but I was wondering if it might be possible to repack the bearing with fresh grease to keep the car running for a few more weeks.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Many Thanks Guys!

Thanks - the problem is I don't have easy access to a press and don't have time to get it before a long trip. But if the bearings are sealed I suppose my options are limited. So is grease not used at all when you replace the rear bearings?
