Rear Speaker noise
 

I have a 2002 Audi A6 and the rear speakers started making a noise like it had feedback. I took it to a radio shop and the guy told me the radio was going so i purchased a new Symphony II radio but the problem is still there. When i take out the rear speakers plug and only leave the front the sound is gone. I was wondering if the plug for the rear speakers is connected to the ground somehow and where will i locate it to adjust it?

Bose system?

Bose systems have an amp for the rear speakers and sub woofer. Might have something to do with it.

It is the Audi Symphony II. I was going to try and re-ground it but i'm not sure where it is. I see the diagram on the radio but the wire leads inside of the dashboard.

While I have HEARD that there are Audi Symphony's WITHOUT Bose, I have NOT seen one. (at least not in an A6.)

Odds are you have a problem with the Bose amp/sub-woofer behind the panel on the right side (passenger side in the USA) of the trunk.

But yes, you could have a problem with "grounding" along with other wiring under the dash. Has there been anything done under there to cause it? (Has anyone been abusing your wires?)

Not sure if it is Bose b/c it doesn't say it but you may have a point with the trunk. I go into the right panel all the time and may have knock something loose. What exactly should i be looking for? No one has went under the dash from my knowledge so i'm thinking it might be the trunk.

Hi Mike, You were sooooo correct. I had no idea there was an amp back there. I unplugged the wire and the rear speakers went off. It looks like the amp is in a compartment that i have to unscrew. Now that i know the amp is there, how would i diagnosis what could be causing the feedback? Does it have a ground wire somewhere back there that i should check?

Keep in mind I haven't had any problems with my amp/sub-woofer so I haven't actually done this on my A6. BUT.... I did stay at a holiday inn.... ;-)

I would look for loose connections. Have the radio playing and wiggle connections and tap on boxes to see if you can get anything to change. If the "bad" sound is there all the time, I would suspect the amp is bad. If talking new parts, most likely you can get better after market amp over a new stock one. You MIGHT be able to find a used amp if you look. (I would go aftermarket.)
