i've got a small dent in my trunk lid and i wanted to replace it... i have a 02 a6 (c5) and the part for sale in question is off an 2001 a6 (b5). my local dealer couldn't tell me, all he said is it was a different part number. someone with experience in the matter tell me if it will work or not, they look very similar.

I'm no expert, but when the body style changes the parts also should change. I doubt a b5 trunk lid would fit the c5 body. It doesn't take much of a change to throw off dimensions and bolt holes.

 

Um, the b5 and any "b#" refers to the A4, right? Was that a typo? The difference between a 2001 and 2002 A6 is very little as they are both of the C5 platform.

Should fit, 01 and 02 were the same body style unlike the A4s that changed in 02.

 

B# is the A4 platform. If you mean C5 for your 01 A6 loaner, than it is the same. Trunk is the same for all C5s, facelift had nothing to do with the deck lid.
