Restoring a 1998 Audi A6 2,8

I have come across an abandoned 1998 A6 2.8L. The Owner says the engine ran fine however he had to leave it ouside of his vacation home that he sold a few years ago. The new home owners have never touched the car but someone broke the drivers glass a couple years ago. and now the car is awful. All interior leather has dry rot, wasp nest, rats, paint gone, etc. I'm looking at this as a project, I have a daily driver so I don't need the car to drive. My questions are the following:

1. What year interiors is a 100% fit (1998 to 2004)?

2. What year exterior ligths, panel, etc is a 100% fit?

3. How hard is it to do the front 2005 conversion?

4. Do all Audi A6 2.8L transmission fail?

Two questions.....

WHY?

Are you daffy?

Comments - Your looking at a money pit. It should be sent to a junk yard.

why do this if its the 2.8? They are common enough and nothing special performance wise. I would part it out.

Huffman - You too kind! It is a throw-away vehicle.

I know - strip the interior and enter a demolotion derby.

It would be like driving a tank across a bunch of tin cans!!

HOLY COW BATMAN!!!!!

And I thought the Audi Forum would be the only place that the car would get some love. Okay time to scrap the whole idea. It is a nice looking car and not too many where I live, but enough said. I hate to see a good car go down.

LOVE??? What love??

We hate these vehicles, but can't get enough of them.
It's an addiction worse than drugs.
They are demons! They get into your brain and don't let go!

They are just like a beautiful woman that haunts you.
You might drive one but inside you know that they possess you and you'll never get over them.

I still have nightmares about my first Audi and when there is a full moon I sit at the window waiting for it to go past.

My wife thinks I need therapy but I know all I need is another Audi.

Tiger's addiction is nothing compared to what an Audi does to a guy.

Once the mechanical, electrical, exterior and interior are trashed you get a nonrunning junker with a temporary tire being advertised online by a dealer for $700.
Did you check that the timing belt did not break before you bought the junker?

I would say find out if it can run with minimal effort like an oil change, jump start, fresh gas. If it runs then it might be worth looking into further. Parts from any 98-2004 A6 (i think) will be interchangeable and if you find a good deal or a decent junkyard you might be able to get most of it cheap enough. I wouldnt rebuild it for the car itself, just as something to flip and make money. Look up the kbb value, half it, and see if thatll do the job. You can find a decent 2.8 for like 3k, so if it takes more than $1500 (including the car itself) dont bother.
