Hey guys,

I know that they sell an S6 grill for the C5 A6here: http://autopartsnationwide.com/part number: 4B3 807 647 C 3SR

Buta post over at AudiWorld http://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/144483.phtmlsays that those grills are for the 2002+ C5 A6's, which were facelifted 2002 onwards.

But..this post https://www.audiforums.com/m_522702/tm.htmseems to say that it WOULD be compatible since the 2001 4.2 is "post facelift"?

Can anyone confirmthis, making the grill at the"autopartsnationwide" link actually compatible with a 2001 4.2 A6?
Or, does anyoneknow where I can findupper and/or lower S6 grilles that would be compatible withmy 2001 4.2 A6?

Any help would beVERYgreatlyappreciated.

you basically cant use things from a 02+ because of the taller grill on top and its wider on the bottom...they dont fit.
you could try finding some grills on ebay. but thats hard to find for the 98-01 a6's

 

Didn't the 4.2's have the same front end 2000-2004? I thought it was just the V6 models that had pre- and post- facelift.

 

The OEM S6 grilles from 2002-2003 are plug-n-play for 2000-2004 A6 4.2. The 4.2 introduced in 2000 had the "facelift" already. In 2002, Audi gave the rest of the lineup the "facelift."

I have the S6 grilles in my 4.2, and the do dress up the front a bit. More emphasis on the vertical slats vs. the horizontal slats.

 

Oh...and don't forget to get the matching lower grille as well...expensive, but finished the look.

i'm looking to do the same Joe... but the S grill goes for almost $400 and reason tells me that that money should be spent on new tires and tie rod ends : (

Is it an easy afternoon DIY? I have a 2.7T and am thinking of just doing just the top one, do you think it will be that noticeable or mismatched??

i downloaded several pics to compare the grills... I can't see how it will be that noticeable if i only do the top, since the bottom grill is not the same vertical blind style. Is it because the S6 grill is a lighter color that they will be noticeably mismatched? perhaps that's where a little black mat spray paint comes in? whaddu think?

also i'm a little disappointed that you cannot fit the quattro badge ... even with some gorilla glue and filing?
