Default safe to use fuel cleaners or octane booster on 4.2's?

Hey guys,

I'm new to do-it-yourself stuff for my a6 4.2. I'm just wondering if it's ok to use the fuel cleaners, octane boosters, and transmission slip cleaners, that you can pick at your local autozone or pepboys, on these engines and trannies? Any help would be great!

Thanks.

Fuel cleaners are ok. Octane boosters are a total waste. Dont add stuff to the tranny.

DITO

Research the seafoam treatment for your engine/fuel system. That's the way to go.

Great results and no problems from Texico / Chevron Synchron w/ Techron fuel system cleaner. Fully synthetic and highly applauded. Easy to find at autozone / advanced auto / walmart. Use a regular diet of Shell 93 "V-Power" and you wont need the fuel system cleaners. Midniteoyl is right, dont mess with the trans. Good Luck!
