If your talking about the screen between your RPM's and speedometer then you can press the button located on the underside of you windshield wiper stick (the one on the right). You just push it in and it turns on and off the screen.

For a 1997 A6 you should find instructions for testing the screen that usually says "OK" after starting, in your owners manual. Also, if you have VAG-COM you might find some error codes, which point to the problem.

That's weird, beats me! Are you sure your screen still physically works? Maybe your lights are out or pixels. I know that on my screen the corners of it are dying and when the radio station shows up you can't read some of it.

i will probably read the owners manual again. the screen lights up but nothing on the screen shows up. ???. maybe i will figure it out later. it might have something to do with the tripometer reset button or something. i will let you know if i can't figure something out.
