Should I buy an A6 2.7T?
Hi,
I'm a newbie here and I don't own an Audi yet
I'm considering replacing my 2000 Maxima with something classier, faster and newer and one of the highest options on the list is 2003 A6 2.7T with 30-35K miles. I test-drove it yesterday and although I should say I'm more impressed with the luxury level versus sportiness of the car, overall I like it a lot.
My biggest concern is reliability. Can you tell me what are the most typical breakdowns and how frequently they happen?
I don't want to buy a used car from a dealer. Do you know if I could get the car certified after I have bought it privately. I don't mind paying for the extended warranty up to 100K when it comes from the manufacturer...
Thanks a lot!!!

RE: Should I buy an A6 2.7T?
I'm on my 3rd care in my young life (20 years) My first car was a 1996 Oldsmobile Bravada then i got a 1999 BMW 528i and loved it....my BMW got totaled. And I went car shopping and I drove tons of cars, I narrowed it down to a 2002 Volvo S60 2.4T or a 2002 Audi A6 3.0.....Go with the AUdi and I loved my BMW and I loved that Volvo. the Audi is great its smooth, quick, and just a nice all around car. as a FORMER BMW LOVER i say get the Audi. you can't go wrong.

I recently purchased an 02 2.7T w/ the 6-sp and it has been great!
Like most used turbo vehicles, there are some long term reliability worries with the 2.7t. For myself, I went CPO just for piece of mind. Most of the issues associated with the engine were worked out by the 2002 model years. And there is a lot of support online for it here and other sites. Make sure there is a maintenance history on the vehicle and keep it up post purchase. It should be fine.

I had an S60 T5, hated it, lost the trans at 33k! It never would track a straight line, it's steering is just plain numb, torque steer galore. I then bougt a 2002 A6 2.7 t, its a lot more car and it drives a lot better, more confident than any volvo at high speed even the S60R. I added the Giac tip and engine upgrades, now it eats S60R's and a lot of other cars for lunch. 65 k and no trobles at all!
I love it!
