Size of donut in 2012 A6 Prestige
Just purchased a 2012 A6 Prestige, but it will be a few days before car arrives. Car has 255-40-19s on it. Just wondering: what is the size of the donut in the trunk? Someone told me that it is a 20 inch donut. Can anyone confirm or correct this info?

Perhaps poor choice of words on my part. There is a full sized wheel and tire, and I am wondering what the size of it is. (I just bought a 2012 A6, and I will not have it in my possession until next week.) I am wondering about the size of the spare. The 2012 A6 that I bought has 255-40-19 inch tires on the ground.

Based on my A6 and my daughter's 2003 A4, your spare should be an exact duplicate of the four road tires. I would not expect anything less for ~$60k, especially given quattros intolerance for mismatched tire diameters.

The only time I've seen Audi ship out a "donut" was in my front wheel driven A3. but if you have Quattro I would agree with all of the above comments - with 60k down and Quattro drive there should be no size difference, usually they even have the exact same rim.

UPDATE from Z06bigbird:
Talked with parts dept mgrs at several Audi dealers. Donut size is 145-60-20. Same size donut for 2012 A6 with 18 inch tires, 19 inch tires, and 20 inch tires.
Height diff between donut and 18 inch = 9/10s of inch;
Height diff between donut and 19 inch = 6/10s of inch;
BTW, the 2012 A6 uses a total diff wheel hub size than the previous models. Other year wheels will not fit this vehicle--per the parts dept mgrs.
I guess we are lucky that we get a donut, as other manufacts give a can of gook to put into your flat tire. No jack, no donut or full size tire with many manufacts. That is a function of saving weight and theoretically increasing gas mileage. Full size spare no longer fits into the wheel well of most trunks.
