Spark plug wire set for 2.7T
 

Hello, I'm having a hard time getting some spark plug wire set for my 2001 Audi A6 Quattro Base 2.7T. Any suggestions or websites? What kind of wire sets do you guys have in your 2.7T's?

The 2.7s have no plug wires.

Oh wow that's different. So then what does the Audi use instead of plug wires? I'm asking because my Audi has the check engine light on and it shakes sometimes when I'm driving. I got it checked out and the code is P0300. So I need to replace all the spark plugs and what else?

2.7Ts also have ignition ctl modules that can cause sporadic misfires. You can move the coils around to see if the misfiring cylinder changes. If not, one of the ICMs might be failing.

So the car has only 2 ICM's right? and what's the difference between direct ignition coils and ignition coils?

And if the car does only have 2 ICM's, do they serve different purposes?

Each ICM controls 3 coils. Coils on plugs are becoming the norm. The cost has come down to where they are, in bulk, not much more costly than plug wires and they are a darn site more reliable, thereby making up the difference in warranty savings. You will enjoy working with them. Be sure you pull the y-pipe off, otherwise there is one bolt you can't get to.

is it tuneup time or are you having a misfiring problem?

if you just wanna do a tuneup, then they sell 6 pack of coils for around 150 and use iridium plugs or equivalent double platniums. Good old NGK copper plugs seem to always yield the best power on the chassis dyno no matter what car is on it. also do egr pcv filters etc.

if you have misfire issues you can take it to a shop that has a scan tool like a snap-on solus or similar to watch each cylinder count misfires to see if you have a bad coil present. Simply checking DTC codes arent going to really tell you which one is bad or if you have another problem altogether.

Well I'm having misfire problems, so I'm thinking of doing the tune-up as well to do everything at once and have everything new to prevent future problems. So let me get this straight, Do I just need the ignition coils by themselves, or do I need to replace the wires that connect the ICM to the ignition coil as well.

The boot comes with the coil. So, you need 6 coils, 6 plugs and 2 ICMs. Just before you change the plugs, run SeaFoam through the intake to clean up the intake systems.
