I dont smoke...so i use the ash tray as a change holder.

Well i guess i have more change than i need...it over flowed and its not caught behind the cigarette lighter and my "change holder" unit wont close now...anyone know how to remove this unit on a 2003 A6 without breaking it???

thanks for your help in advance.

You need to remove the radio. There are special keys (4) you will need. Do not try to pull the ashtray out with out taking the radio out, it will come out but when you put it back in it might not stay closed, that's what happened to me. You also have to be careful with the face plate on the ashtray 4 plastic clips that break easily. I have attached a link for you to see how to take the radio out, there is a write up on the ashtray do a search, but this should get you started.
Good Luck

Not only must you remove the radio (with the proper keys) but you must also remove the climate control which is held in with two 8mm hex bolts behind the radio faceplate. Cehck out the link below, which shows removal of the radio, climate control, and the ashtray. Ignore the other stuff (from my tiptronic paddleshift steerign wheel mod).

Thanks for the posting. I keep loose change in my ashtray, too. Or at least, I did, until I read this.
