Default Taking my car in for repair, is this smart?

I bought the timing belt kit with the water pump and all that good stuff. I was figuring on buying spark plugs at Napa on my way to the shop. I was wondering though my car has 84,000 miles and is a 2002 a6 4.2 triptronic 5spd. Should I buy transmission fluid and have them change that out aswell? If so, where can I order that? anyways thanks.

Wait to see how good of a job they do for you on the Timing belt. There is a particular way to do the trans service and it is nothing like an American vehicle. If they screw it up You will have to do it again yourself.

Ask them if they have done them before. Ask them if they have a Vag-Com. If not then don't let them near it.

Unless you have dealt with a shop before and trust them, I would be weary of supplying parts and have them provide the labor. Most shops don't provide warranty on parts that they did not provide... meaning if the work fails, and even if the failure was based on the labor, not parts, they will pin it on the part.

Look on local Craigslist and get an Audi Mechanic to do the Timing belt for you...
