Default Which thermostat fits?

I have 2 Beck/Arnley thermostats listed for a '96 A6 Quattro.. the problem is, which one actually fits...?

Here's the two :

143-0816 FROM CHASSIS/VIN #4B-X-160 001

143-0709 TO CHASSIS/VIN #4B-X-160 000

So, with the VIN being WAUGA84AXTN038885, which one fits? I'm assuming the 0709, but wanna check before I pull this crap apart in 20 degree weather

definitely the second one, but why isn't listed as #4A - etc, rather than 4B?
Your model is "4AX", so what's up with the 4B listing? Are you sure are the right T-stats for your car?

They are the ones that consistantly come up... ECS has a different manufacturer, but shipping kills ya on just one.

The '4B' thing is whats throwing me off

Well, I could bet that most t-stats for A6's are the same , no matter the brand, but that "4B" listing is just not right.
Is O'reillys the store with with Beck/Arnley?

ECS indeed has the cheaper Vemo - 11 and change for a 87°C, and the Behr for 17 and change, 92°C. Shipping yepp, will kill ya.

Don't you need other parts $ 50 worth? You can get the Behr from AzAutohaus for like 17.50. Up to 50 you can get a new air filter, some more coolant, bs like that and you get free shipping.

Behr is a "cheaper" brand? I thought is the standard/etalon in cooling.

Not paying $15 a liter for coolant.. Peak Global Lifetime is the same as G12/G12+.. good enough.
