Default Thinking about buying an A6

Hello all I am new to the forum and new to Audi.

I am considering purchasing an 2002 A6 quatro 3.0L non turbo(you probably gatherd that )

How much does the yearly maintence cost app.?
How easy is the maintence to do yourself?
What are the most common problems with these cars?
What should I look for when purchasing one?

Pros and cons to this model?

I have an 05 4.2 so I can't help you. But there is more traffic on the Audiworld.com website and they may be able to help you.

I got htis model not too long ago; for the mainteinance i didn't paid anythign yet, but i'm scheduling a 60K service for the next month; it would be something like $400-$600 due the fact that is a major service.

The common sense would push you to keep in good shape the car, changing the oil every 5-6K miles, using good oil and avoiding the recycled oil used in all the cheap places where they change oil

Air filter replacement would cost around 60 bucks, you can do it by yourself, like the oil change and all the other minor issues (sparkplugs, and other fluids,e xcept the transmission fluid), then consider taht you are buying a german car, so except if you don't live in germany, the service will cost muuuuch more

When you buy a car you also must consider that more expensive is the car and mroe expensive will be the service....buying is the first step only, so be prepared to invest a bunch of money on it, if you want to keep this car for long time

You're askng REALLY wide open questions. Tough for anybody to answer conclusively -- only through their personal experience. Suggest you search the forums and read, read, read. That's what I did before I bought and I feel MUCH more secure with my decision for having done so.

You may also want to check out Stoney's Links as great background reading. Follow the link in my sig to my registry page to find a link to Stoney's.

Good luck with your search. They are great cars and I've been very happy with my purchase. No unusual maintenance (other than oil changes) since my purchase in February.

A good source is http://www.edmunds.com/used/2002/aud...ndex...1.Audi*

Good suggestion by darshie there. I also reference some pretty good reading on my registry page that you may want to check out.
