Thinking about buying a used A6
 

Hey,
New here, looking for information/advice. I found a used 2000 A6 at a dealership around here and was wanting to know if these particular cars were reliable? The only thing giving me pause is the 124K on the odo.

Any advice help is greatly appreciated.

It looks ok, i baught a 98 withj 106,000 and it runs great but it takes some $$$$$ to maintain from the 18.99 powersteeing fluid to the 300$ replacement key, or the dreaded Check Engine Light but i say go for it they are super fun cars i would not trade mine for the world... Good luck

Looks ok. Imight be willing tosell you 2000 2.7 for that price and mine looks better with 30K less on the odometer. Plus I've already had lots of work done to it. From what I've seen on the site, it's kinda hit and miss on a used Audi. Some people have hardly any issues and some people have lots. I've fixed quite a few things on mine, but I really do love driving it. I love the look as well. Good luck with it. It's a great driving car and you will love it.

I bought my 01 4.2 with 69K for $9200 from a dealer. Unless you really want that one, I wouldn't do it. The 2.7t is a money pit too man. Do some research into it. Turbo's will go out and that alone is $4000+.

I've enjoyed buying used high end euorpean cars for years, for 20 -25% of what they cost new. It is a must to know the car. They are all expensive to maintain & repair. Car lots rarely have the service history and that is the key to buying these kinds of cars plus having the car checked out before you purchase. What typical problems like the front suspension have already been addressed? What parts have been replaced by the previous owners so you don't have to. At 124,000 the timing belt, tensioners& water pump better have been done or it could go any second. Expensive

The perfect deal in my opinion is a one or two owner car with full service history. I don't mind, sometimes prefer a higher milage car that has replaced parts that typically go wrong anyway.

Bought our A6 with 89,000 from the original owner that kept all receipts plus an excel spread sheet of everything that was ever done to the car. He was a car guy. He had the tranny rebulit, control arms, a couple of axels, expensive things I won't have to do.

I still had to replace the power steering pump and there will be other things but no big deal because the car was bought right.

Good luck, these are great cars. They're not Hondas but that's why I own one.

WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY BETTER DEALS OUT THERE!!!! STOP UR SELF NOW! I paid 12k for a 2001 a6 2.7T with only 44500 miles on it! don't buy a beat up car :p

Drilled and slotted brake rotors? To me that means a car that has been hot-rodded. That calls into question the clutch. Of course, it might have been replaced as well. And better to replace a clutch than to rebuild a tiptronic!

Here would be my question: if you live in South Caroline, why would you want a Quattro? They are great in the snow, but are just big, large cars, otherwise. And they can be expensive to maintain. With no maintenance history, you HAVE to replace the timing belt. So, offer him $8,900 and be prepared to walk away.
