Timing belt
OK so I have a 2001 A6 2.7Lt with 149k miles on it. The car was all serviced by Audi when it was owned by two other people. I am trying to find out if the timing belt was changed on the car but the only thing it says on the car facts report is that the drive belts were checked at 100k miles. How can I find out if the timing belt was changed?
check under the hood on top of the radiator support near the passenger side headlight. There is a metallic sticker thing there that, if the timing belt was changed by an authorized audi tech, should be filled out (I think they use one of those metal stamper thingys to do it). Most timing belts come with a similar type sticker that is supposed to be filled out and put on the car somewhere.
With 149K miles I would make the assumption that the belt has already been changed at least once AND is probably due to be changed again.
When in doubt, change it out.

Call or take it in to the Audi shop where the other two people had it serviced. Usually if you are nice to the service guy he will look it up and tell you. If it was done at 80-100k you have some time before it is due again. If it was never done, you are risking a ruined engine. So, do you invest $1000 as a precaution or gamble $3-5k? keep it mind that if done at 90k then it needs to be done again in another 30k.
